California Document Preparers’ September Employee of the Month is Brook Thurston, in our Walnut Creek office. Brook was born in Colorado, grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to California in 2008. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from The PJA School in PA with an Associates Degree in Specialized Business.
Like the rest of the Walnut Creek team, Brook is committed to her fitness routine, and regularly does crossfit training. She also enjoys movies, shopping and looks forward to spending time with friends and going out to dinner.
Brook lived in Santa Cruz, where she worked as a service consultant for an automotive service and repair company for five years, then moved to the Concord area and “found this amazing career” nearly three years ago. In that time she studied for, then graduated from the Legal Document Assistants program with high honors in November, 2014.
It’s California Document Preparers’ objective that all team members be as knowledgeable as possible across all practice areas, but each person concentrates on specific legal areas. “By developing specialties, we inevitably gain more in-depth knowledge and experience and are better able to help our clients.
Probate is a growing business for California Document Preparers
“I’ve been focusing on Conservatorships, Deeds and Probate. Many people think that when someone dies without a Will or Living Trust and their estate goes into Probate, their only option is seek the help of an attorney, which becomes very expensive, very quickly. But if the heirs are not contesting the Estate, California Document Preparers can help you. We save our clients a significant amount of money, and Probate is becoming an increasingly important part of our services—our fees are dramatically lower than those of attorneys, and we walk you through every step of the process.
“I’m also starting to work on family law matters, and I spend time each month analyzing website traffic as part of our search engine optimization (SEO) effort. I enjoy working with numbers, and it’s been fun learning to recognize patterns and help drive our online strategy. This is something that I like about my job—I enjoy new challenges and learning new things.”
